Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project receives Community Fund boost

1st April, 2022

Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project is benefitting from our community fund, and will use the £300 donation to buy new litter picking equipment.

The organisation’s volunteers remove and recycle litter and marine waste washed up on the region’s beaches.

This is a fantastic local initiative, which has a positive and significant impact on our environment, so we’re delighted to be able to help buy some more equipment.

The donation is part of our pledge to help those living in areas where we operate. It is important that we build strong relationships with local charities, clubs and organisations - so we’re delighted to be able to support such a worthy cause here.

It also ties in wonderfully with our bid to improve air quality and help lower emissions in Dorset - by encouraging people to leave their cars at home and use sustainable transport instead.

Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project works hard to ensure the area’s beaches and open spaces are clean, safe and welcoming for the community and for visitors to enjoy.

Dave Taylor, director of Weymouth & Portland Marine Litter Project, said: “The donation will allow us to launch an exciting new community project. Our new scheme will allow us to reach local community groups, which could be anything from cubs and brownies to small businesses - to enable them to do stress-free beach cleans with us doing all the organisation, from equipment local to insurance cover for free.”

The Damory Community Fund is open to applicants in February and August.
