A local charity, dedicated to reducing alcohol and other substance related harms for people under 25 – and reducing social isolation among people of all ages - has received a financial boost from Damory.

The Talk About Trust, based in Poundbury, Dorchester, has also opened a new community hub in Poundbury - called Pavilion in the Park.

“The aim of our charity, through our outreach projects at the community hub, is to support the mental, physical health and resiliency of our local community,” said Kerry Smith, Community Relationship Manager.

“We do this for people of all ages through a range of activities such as Art Clubs, Kids Clubs, Youth Clubs, free music and seasonal events thus helping to decrease social isolation and improving well-being and social cohesion.

“As part of our wider outreach initiative, we have established monthly two-hour Senior Social sessions for local senior citizens aged 65 and over. These gatherings are held at the community hub and are specifically designed to support individuals who may be living alone or experiencing social isolation.

“Our previous funding came to an end, so we turned to local bus and coach company, Damory, through its community fund.

“We were thrilled to receive £750, which will help us continue to offer our community sessions free-of-charge - removing financial barriers and ensuring all participants, regardless of personal circumstances, can enjoy companionship and a sense of be-longing. I’d like to thank Damory for its generosity. This donation will go a long way to supporting local people - providing them with a safe and friendly space, where they know they will feel welcome.”

Paul Knight, Damory operations manager, added: “Social isolation can affect people for many reasons, and we are keen to support any local group or charity that is committed to creating an inclusive atmosphere for all.

“I’d like to thank The Talk About Trust for the important work its team carries out to benefit those living within the local area. This is exactly the type of worthy cause our community fund is designed to support - and I’m pleased we have been able to do just that with our latest donation.”
