A new local football club, aimed at women of all abilities and levels of fitness, is celebrating new support from our community fund.

We are backing Blandford United Women’s Football Club by providing funds towards new equipment at the club’s home pitch in Stourpaine.

“We are a brand new over 16s football team in Blandford, with more than 30 women signed up who are keen to play,” said Chrissy Regler from Blandford United FC. “As much as there was a demand for a women’s team, the social impact has been the biggest surprise for us.

“The need to be included in something they enjoy has really improved their mental health, and also how they see themselves. We are using any spare pitches we can until we find our permanent home but we need to invest in new nets, corner flags and other basic equipment to help with match days and training.

“We contacted Damory, through its community fund, and were delighted to receive £500 toward all of this, for which we are very grateful. Our aim, long term, is to create more opportunities for girls’ teams to be formed. This initial support from Damory will go a long way in helping to achieve that.”

Our operations manager, Paul Knight, added: “Our community fund is designed to support charities, organisations, schools and clubs who provide important services and facilities in areas where we operate - and Blandford United Women’s Football Club is an excellent example of that.

We’re pleased to be able to help the club with its set up costs, and wish them all the very best for the future.

The community fund is open to applicants all year round, with Damory funding and support donated during August and February.
